South Korea’s visa ladder runs from the D-4 language-trainee visa up to E-9 labor and E-7 professional visas, with TOPIK certification unlocking each step.
Student Visa (D-2 / D-4)
Language trainees entering on a D-4 visa do not require prior fluency, but direct university entry via a D-2 visa requires a TOPIK level 3 or 4 certification.
Job / Worker Visa (E-7 / E-9)
The EPS-TOPIK exam is a mandatory prerequisite to qualify for manufacturing and labor positions under the E-9 visa pathway. Professional E-7 engineering visas highly favor TOPIK Level 3 or higher.
Diploma / Associate Degrees
Technical and vocational associate degrees require a baseline score of TOPIK Level 3.
